How the hourly wage is calculated
A year has 52 weeks spread over 12 months, so an average month has 52 ÷ 12 = 4.33 weeks. Paid hours per month are weekly hours × 4.33, and the hourly wage is the monthly salary divided by those hours:
Hourly wage = monthly salary ÷ (weekly hours × 52 ÷ 12)
Example: with €3,000.00 a month and 38.5 hours a week, that is 166.83 hours a month and an hourly wage of €17.98.
Some employers and collective agreements use slightly different factors such as 4.35 weeks; the differences are usually a few cents. Paid holidays and public holidays are already included in the monthly salary, so the result is the hourly wage for your contractual working time.
